Is Sunak’s Britain worth fighting for?

WHO would fight for the United Kingdom? This isn’t so much a rhetorical question as a practical one, as senior figures in the armed forces wrestle with the fact that we have a comically small military for a nation with world-power pretensions.

What is in it for the demographic who traditionally spilled their blood for the nation – the white male? Branches of our armed forces discourage them joining: the great-grandsons of the pilots of the Battle of Britain given the cold shoulder.

More crucially, they grow up in a society which preaches continuous self-loathing. In a world without functioning Christianity, the modern-day original sin is to be white. Augment this by being male and straight and you are at the bottom of the pecking order.

Such white, straight males are incessantly told of the misdeeds of their ancestors, ranging from slavery to misogyny to homophobia. They are brought up in a country forever apologising for its past, where self-flagellation of this type is a marker of good taste and a prerequisite for social advancement.

Were a war to break out, you can be sure that the white male would be called upon to do the dying. Yet in an emasculated modern age – remember, most of these lads will have been through a feminised education, imbued with female attitudes and discouraged from anything easily labelled as toxically masculine – it’s not clear how many of these you would even want on the front line. After all, amid the crash of artillery and whirr of drone there are no ‘safe spaces’.

Moreover, how many of them would want to fight? And who can blame them: who would put their life on the line for the likes of Sunak – the utterly unrelatable billionaire-by-marriage – of Biden, the senile octogenarian, or of any of the other narcissistic lunatics in positions of power? Imagine risking one’s own destruction only to realise that Grant Shapps – Grant Shapps! – is the Defence Secretary.

To fight for what? Another unnecessary war waged against a place of which we know so little? The vanity projects of Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya have left hundreds of thousands dead and countries in ruins. Added to this litany of errors is the Nato-provoked conflict with Russia, which has become a charnel house for Ukraine’s youth. As politicians play Churchill, the arms companies turn a revolting profit and aid is syphoned off by a sickeningly corrupt government in Kiev.

For such corruption and immorality not even the little toe of a British grenadier is worth putting in harm’s way.

And what of Britain’s new arrivals? We have undergone a demographic change unseen in our history. There will be many new patriots among their ranks and our armed forces have a rich history of soldiers from around the world. Their contribution is not overlooked. Yet modern Britain’s lack of cultural confidence – and the rise of what can be termed ‘hyphenated Britons’ – underscore the cracks that have emerged in the modern body politick.

Diversity is our strength, until we need unity, of course.

It is being drummed into our heads that a total war with Russia is on the horizon. A war that nobody wants and will be of no benefit to anyone fighting it.

Cui bono? Not you or me.

Most of history’s wars were senseless. Millions died on Europe’s battlefields from 1914-18 for, in retrospect, seemingly no point at all. Yet for politicians, media hacks and arms dealers the spectre of war justifies their continued existence.

They don’t care if you are blown to pieces on the battlefield: you are just a microscopic cog in their megalomaniacal plans.

So, who would fight for Great Britain? My ancestors, probably much like yours, did. But that was a nation which has been consciously dismantled. It is a country which today cannot and will not defend its border, allows itself to slide into criminality and persecutes the law-abiding, and whose very history is incessantly undermined. It allowed the flower of its youth to be sexually abused in towns across the land for fear of being accused of racism. Its veterans sleep rough while those arriving illegally are put up indefinitely in hotels. It is a country in ideological thrall to concepts designed to hollow out national resilience and to place us in permacrisis, thereby making us all the easier to govern by diktat.

It is a nation whose priorities are so perversely backwards that the answer to ‘who would fight for it?’ must now surely be ‘hardly anyone’.

Not that this will stop the lunatics in power banging their drums of pointless war.
