The Tennessee Conservative [By Adelia Kirchner] –
“Do you agree with TNGOP leadership that illegal immigration is primarily a federal issue, or do you think it should be addressed directly by the legislature on a state-level?” asked a recent illegal immigration survey conducted by The Tennessee Conservative.
Survey results showed that 99% of respondents disagree with Tennessee GOP leadership’s stance that illegal immigration is a “federal issue,” answering that “GOP State Lawmakers Should Pass Laws to Stop or Discourage It.”
Less than 1% of respondents answered with “I Trust the Federal Government to Handle It.”
The sample size used for this poll was 1,659 Tennessee residents. 77% of which described themselves as conservative republicans, 11% as independents, 6% as libertarians, 5% as moderate republicans, and less than 1% as moderate or liberal democrats.
About 72% of respondents were 4-of-4 primary voters and 97% of respondents said they will be voting in the upcoming GOP primaries.
When asked to rate their concern about illegal immigration in the State of Tennessee on a scale of 1 to 100 with 1 being “not worried” and 100 being “extremely worried,” respondents gave an average rating of 96.
Survey results showed that 99% of respondents believe that illegal immigrants should not be receiving taxpayer-funded benefits in Tennessee, such as housing assistance, food stamps, and other welfare program benefits.
98% of respondents were in support of the Tennessee legislature passing a bill to stop taxpayer-funded illegal immigrant education in the state and 99% said they were in support of passing a bill to penalize and ban the mass transportation of illegal aliens into the state by federally funded, private companies.
Finally, respondents were asked to rank the performance of the GOP-controlled legislature and Gov. Bill Lee on the issue of illegal immigration on a scale of 1-100, with 1 being “extremely disappointed” and 100 being “extremely pleased.”
Tennessee’s Republican lawmakers received a score of 19 and Gov. Lee received a slightly more charitable score of 23.
This is despite Gov. Lee’s previous authorization of things like “refugee resettlement” which resulted in the opening of facilities like “La Casa de Sydney,” a “shelter” for “unaccompanied alien children” in Chattanooga that was eventually exposed for multiple instances of child sexual abuse by employees and other issues.
Results of a previous general policy survey showed that illegal immigration was the #1 issue for 60% of conservatives and that participants were concerned about how the issue was being addressed at the state level.
In light of how Tennessee’s GOP leadership has neglected to secure transparency for Tennesseans and meaningfully handle the state’s illegal immigration crisis, The Tennessee Conservative in conjunction with Tennessee Stands will be having a “Protect Tennessee’s Borders Rally” in Nashville on March 20th, 2024…Mark your calendars and stand by for more details.
