I’M sitting here in front of the Telly Box, something I rarely do, watching RTE, something else I rarely do, as the Irish Government gets absolutely crushed in the two referendums on the family and care/women in the home.
I never thought I’d be so proud of Ireland and the voters. Leading up to this vote I was convinced that they would vote through the ludicrous and confusing changes to the Constitution that deleted mothers and women from it while downgrading marriage. I thought, if mothers voted for this, they will literally vote for anything.
Thankfully, the Irish voters came back with a resounding drop dead to the Irish government. Thankfully, the government cannot just stick the words Modern Ireland on to any old rubbish of a proposal and expect the voters to nod it through like good little lemmings.
This raises serious question for the lads in politics, especially those with the unpronounceable Irish names. There is the man they made in a lab he’s so annoying, Aodhán Ó Ríordáin, who took a resounding beating. Then there is Roderic O’Gorman TD, Eamon Ryan TD, Micheál Martin the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence who had a stinker of a TV debate during the week. They all took one hell of a beating.
And as for the women who were campaigning, spending their time gagging to delete the word mother from the Irish Constitution on the weekend of Mother’s Day, shame on them. What an odious bunch they are.
Readers should not underestimate what a huge win this is. Every single party, except Aontú which has one TD, the mainstream media, and all the taxpayer-funded NGOs apart from two supported this change.
I admit that I assumed both of these changes would pass because if it is ‘change’ the voters seem to go for it. Not this time.
This has truly restored my faith in womankind, for a short time at least. It was a very broad coalition that defeated these ridiculous proposals. The message is clear: there is nothing sexist in the word woman, there is nothing sexist in the word mother and there is nothing wrong with the idea of having duties in the home.
This political virtue-signalling operation cost the taxpayer €23million The government lied to the Irish people. They lied and lied again. This time they were found out.
