Last week, The City of Chattanooga via press release, announced their selection to be one of the cities that will be handed millions of dollars in the name of “sustainability” by the former mayor of NYC, Michael Bloomberg’s philanthropic organization.
This selection is in addition to the already vigorous efforts to transform Chattanooga into what are being called “15-minute cities”, where everyone who lives in the area has everything they need, with regard to infrastructure within a 15-20 minute walk or bike ride. This is in order to eliminate the need for the use of cars, a “utopia” as it is often described.
The press release stated, “Bloomberg Philanthropies works to ensure better, longer lives for the greatest number of people by focusing on five key areas: the arts, education, the environment, government innovation, and public health.
Notably, as the screenshot illustrates, there is a soda tax included in the plan, because as some will remember, this was a key initiative of the Bloomberg administration.
The effort earned Mayor Bloomberg the moniker, “nanny state” and rather than curbing the purchase of large sodas in New York, encouraged people to find ways around the tax.
The press release continued, “Drawing on the Bloomberg administration’s experience leading New York City, the Government Innovation program reflects Bloomberg Philanthropies’ belief in the power of local governments to improve lives and tackle pressing challenges. “
The reasons the city says they are excited and more than happy to have this opportunity is because, “The idea of One Chattanooga is that by addressing our historic issues of inequality we can make our city happier, healthier, safer, and more prosperous for all Chattanoogans.”
In May of 2022, The Tennessee Conservative reported that the city of Chattanooga had been one of only two cities chosen in the United States that have agreed to ‘pioneer’ a new roadmap for adopting new technology as part of the World Economic Forum’s G20 Global Smart Cities Alliance.
In the United States, Chattanooga, along with San Jose, California had agreed to implement a roadmap, designed by the World Economic Forum, to give cities laws, procedures and regulations to “ethically and responsibly” use new data and technologies.
The cities had agreed to adopt policies for cybersecurity accountability, increased transparency for city data, increased broadband coverage, increased privacy protection and better accessibility to digital city services for disabled individuals and the elderly.
The Tennessee Conservative has also previously reported on the effort to recreate the city of Chattanooga into a “Smart City” by engaging in a beta project that would incorporate driverless vehicles.
However, in order to accomplish this, aggressive projects were started to implement the infrastructure that would be needed in order to successfully integrate this technology into the downtown area.
The city started experimenting with a 1.2 mile stretch outfitted with cameras, LiDAR, radar and audio devices to test new technology in the interest of reaching zero traffic fatalities once deployed throughout downtown. This project is still ongoing.
Additionally, in a further effort to rebrand and make over Chattanooga into this model of progressivism, last year Chattanooga’s Climate Action Plan was made when city council members voted to expand infrastructure for electric vehicles.
Originally published in 2015 one of its goals for city government is to have zero carbon emissions by 2040. This will be achieved by an all-electric fleet of vehicles. This plan according to the city council has a specific focus sustainability, equity and climate change.
The Board of Directors of the Bloomberg Philanthropies reads like a who’s who of globalist notables including:
• Manny Diaz, former Mayor of Miami
• Bob Iger, CEO of Disney
• Samuel J. Palmisano, Chairman, The Center for Global Enterprise; Retired Chairman, President and CEO, IBM Corporation
• Secretary Henry “Hank” M. Paulson, Jr., Former Secretary, U.S. Department of the Treasury under President Bush, Former Chairman and CEO, Goldman Sachs
• Admiral Michael G. Mullen, USN (Ret.) 17th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under both Bush and Obama
• John J. Mack, Chairman Emeritus, Morgan Stanley
Bloomberg isn’t the only source of funding for the multiple project plan, the press release also indicated that a substantial amount of funds was being made available through The Inflation Reduction Act, which incidentally, has yet to lower inflation based on any sort of measurement in the US, let alone Tennessee.
The money and projects will be implemented and managed by an “innovation team” who the press release indicates, “will support Chattanooga for up to three years. “
The release also explains, “Chattanooga will also receive multi-year, in-depth, customized policy and technical assistance in collaboration with community-based organizations and local stakeholders to mobilize public, private, and philanthropic investments to achieve their goals.”
