WHEN you think the world of politics couldn’t get grimmer, it just does.
Even without a BBC licence I couldn’t miss Wednesday’s spectacle of the descent of the ‘Mother of Parliaments’ into complete disarray, the fall-out of which continued into Thursday. TV screens seemed to be blaring it wherever I went. What a metaphor for the corruption and decay of democracy!
There was something vaguely grotesque about it all, from the glamorously coiffed, perfectly made-up, self-important Penny Mordaunt spouting her school-marm inanities, followed by a dressed-down (no tie, open neck – when was that allowed?) SNP or Labour male’s endless question. They were equally nauseating. Then as we were hearing the brutal truth – reports from inside Parliament of Labour MPs feeling intimidated and threatened by pro-Palestine mobs – outside, a genocidal slogan about Jewish people was projected on to Big Ben. Yes, the Met allowed this to go ahead because of the ‘strong feelings they were aware of’. A metaphor for the shocking state of the UK, MPs hoist on the petard of their own wokery and appeasement. Suella Braverman had it in one. Islamists are bullying the country into submission, helped by the Met. A Twitter follower tells me that Braverman was accused of using ‘very unhelpful language’ by a useful idiot on TalkTV, and the host appeared to agree. As the tweeter said: ‘This is what happens whenever someone dares to point out how dangerous the situation has become. They’re derided and criticised.’ Indeed so.
I came in for a bit of this myself last week over my support for Israel, triggered by an article we ran on anti-Semitism being at its worst since the Nazis. Some people seem determined to deny this fact, though it is the case, and no, it is not caused by Israel’s bombing of Gaza. The crux of the criticism in my case is not just that I am agreeing with Yvette Cooper or the Telegraph or Spectator (a heady mix I was not aware of – did I want to be agreeing with them, I was asked) but that I am not ‘balanced’. That in order to be I must examine Israel’s purported crimes, helpfully documented for me with endless anti-Zionist conspirator sources. My answer is that first, I have never pretended to be impartial on TCW. Second, our USP is not just exactly the opposite of this pretence, but to think for ourselves. We are a radical dissenting website, whether on Trump, Brexit, covid, Ukraine or Israel; we take our own line and are careful about evidence and analysis. To be sure, it is never the same as the BBC’s. But no, we do not share the same ‘bedfellows’ on every issue. In the case of Israel I believe that it has to eradicate Hamas. Taking on Hamas and extreme Islamism is critical for any final defence of our genuine Western democratic and liberal values, not the inverted and subverted ones of our elites. I also believe if a similar amount of moral pressure had been put on the Arab world (namely Qatar) to help release the hostages, and the same condemnation heaped on Hamas’s hideous regime as on Israel re its conduct of the war, Israel would not have been forced into its unilateral stand.
Why this has not happened appals me. Instead Israel has been subjected to the ‘shaming’ bandwagon which last week Prince William unfortunately chose to climb aboard. Why now? If humanitarian grounds are his concern, why did he not demand Hamas release the Israeli hostages from the start?
I did find myself wondering how I would deal with the harassment and manipulative shaming Labour’s Rachel Reeves was subjected to while campaigning in Leeds. You can see it here. I think I would, for starters, have walked towards the fire stating emphatically that I believe the war against Hamas is a legitimate one, and while it holds the hostages an essential one; secondly that Israel has bent over backwards to limit casualties (we only have Hamas as the source of evidence anyway) while Hamas have been doing the exact opposite, ruthlessly using their own women and children as human shields to construct their victim narrative, and thirdly, no, Israel has not stopped supplying water. Finally, Hamas can release the hostages at any time.
The trouble is, as we know, that there’s been a silent but pernicious ‘woke coup’ or capture of all our institutions – including the very one that is meant to defend us, our armed forces. We published three articles – important and disturbing in equal measure – on this subversive diversity mania, two by Paddy Benham-Crosswell and one by a whistle-blower whose account shows just how potentially suicidal this is.
Sometimes I do wonder whether I am not hitting my head against a brick wall and what difference all our articles make, if any, when you see the ministers of what calls itself a Conservative party being such useful idiots. Take this reply to Andrew Bridgen last week in Parliament who asked whether the minister thinks that the rise of ‘woke’ makes it easier or more difficult to recruit the right sort of people into our armed forces?
It is truly depressing. Why does this minister think it is the prior duty of the army to ‘reflect’ society? I thought it was to defend it!
However, we have to fight on for truth and freedom, and I did get a real boost last week from one particularly generous donation. I am so very, very grateful to her and to several others who generously gave to us last week. As I said in my thank you letter, it’s not just the money, it’s the knowledge that our hard work is appreciated and felt to be important. So once again, thank you to all the readers who write expressing their support. We would not have the energy or the resources without you. That is the bottom line.
And knowledge, after all, is power. That is what we try to do – to share it. We really had that in buckets last week with light shone by Tucker Carlson in his seminal interview with Mike Benz, the former US State cyber security expert. The new information in it on how democracy has been subverted by the elites and turned against the people in the West, through the military control of social media, is a veritable eye-opener. We began reporting it on Thursday.
So I want to end the week with a ‘three cheers’ for individual journalists and commentators, like Tucker, who continue to defy this censorship, work their way round it and beat the system. With such voices out there, people who refuse to be bullied or bowed down, all is not lost.
Postscript
I see Liz Truss has come out firing on all barrels on Steve Bannon’s War Room – saying what we all knew that the UK PM is not the head of state in any meaningful way. When Bannon teased her with ‘are you a conspiracy theorist person?’ (after she detailed ‘the friends of deep state who work to keep things the same’) she didn’t back down. Will she now have a similarly robust go at her party’s and the establishment’s (and that includes the woke Sky News) craven appeasement of Sadiq Khan and his mendacious allegations about the now sacked Lee Anderson MP with whom 99% of Tories agree. I do hope so.
