Marianne Williamson Unsuspends Campaign – HotAir

If people could just hear her, Marianne Williamson is convinced she could beat Donald Trump in November. I’ll give you a minute to stop laughing.

Marianne Williamson is unsuspending her campaign. Just a few weeks ago, she suspended her campaign. She’s in, she’s out, she’s back in again.

It’s Friday and it’s good to laugh. I don’t doubt her sincerity but c’mon, if a self-help guru with a large following, thanks to her old pal Oprah, didn’t catch on in the beginning of the primary,  what makes her think she can do it now? She told FNC’s Neil Cavuto that the problem is that not enough people are hearing her message, whatever that is. She said the primary is a three-alarm fire at this point. She has sold millions of books so why can’t she put herself in front of more people to spread her message?

Just as Republican primary voters are stubbornly sticking with Trump, Democrat primary voters are sticking with Joe Biden. Williamson said that she thinks Biden is too vulnerable of a candidate to put up against former President Donald Trump. Fingers crossed.

“As of today, I am unsuspending my campaign for the presidency of the United States,” Williamson said. “I had suspended it because I was losing the horse race. But something so much more important than the horse race is at stake here, and we must respond.”

“Right now, we have a fascist standing at the door. Everybody’s all upset about it. Well, we should be upset about it. But we’re not going to defeat the fascist by–well, by what? What is President Biden offering?” she asked. “What is he saying beyond, ‘You know, the economy is doing really well.’?”

“We’re still in this. Let’s do this. This is serious,” she added. “We need to say to the American people, ‘we see your pain,’ and we need to say to Donald Trump, ‘we see your B.S.’”

She suspended her campaign on February 7. She didn’t endorse Biden when she did. Maybe she knew there was a possibility she would get back in. It’s her second time running against Biden in the Democrat presidential primary. She ran in 2019 and I found her to be a good source of entertainment, though she was not deliberately trying to be amusing. At least, I don’t think she was. Some of her answers to policy questions during the debates just sounded so other-worldly, really flaky. It was assumed she would not get too far in that primary but I appreciated her entertaining contribution to some otherwise mind-numbing Democrat debates in the 2019 cycle.

Williamson jumped into the 2024 Democrat primary in early 2023. The result hasn’t been as it was in 2019. because there were no debates this time. Biden refused to debate his opponents. He had few – Williamson and RFK, Jr. RFK, Jr. left to run as an independent candidate when it became clear to him that the DNC was rigging the primary for Biden and choosing to just ignore the others. Then Rep.Dean Phillips (D-MN) jumped in to challenge Biden. He has been very critical of the party for ignoring alternatives to Biden.

So, Williamson didn’t get as much national exposure as she did in 2019. It’s very rare that a candidate unsuspends a campaign, though. Maybe it was the Hur report that pushed her to get back in the race. Though she was not still a candidate when the Michigan primary happened on Tuesday, she received 3% of the vote, while Dean Phillips, who was still in the primary, received 2.7%.

She’s a run-of-the-mill progressive. She wants a high minimum wage, to cancel student debts, and Medicare for all. She slams Biden for touting the economy and notes that many people have to have more than one job to pay their bills in Biden’s economy. And she says that Biden’s slogan of “Let’s finish the job” won’t beat Trump.

Williamson is right to be worried about Biden’s ability to defeat Trump. Trump is beating Biden in all the swing states. Trump’s numbers continue to go up as Biden’s don’t. The majority of voters don’t want a re-match of 2020 but this is where we are and voters are leaning toward Trump, not Biden.

She said it’s like watching a car crash

“We’re watching a car crash in slow motion here, everybody knows it,” she asserted. “What’s delusional is just closing our eyes and crossing our fingers and just hoping that somehow Biden and Harris will be able to beat that juggernaut of dark, dark vision.”

Dean Phillips put a little comedic spin on his loss in Michigan.

We know the ending to this story. No one wants it but we are in a rerun of 2020.
