THIS is something I never expected to feel: ashamed of my country.
There are individual incidents that have taken place under the banner of the UK that one could be ashamed of, or particular groups that are shameful for our country. But this is neither of those. It is shame that I am a citizen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
What triggered this feeling? What tipped me over the edge, from concern or reservation about what has been happening in the UK recently, to complete shame to be associated with it?
This article was the tipping point. It appeared in the Jerusalem Post and described how two Jewish brothers, survivors of the October 7 Supernova festival massacre, were detained and abused for two hours by Border Force officers at Manchester airport, just because they were Jewish and from Israel – apparently ‘to ensure they were not going to do in the UK what they were doing in Gaza’.
We see Team Hamas weekly flaunting their aggressive anti-Semitism and banners calling for genocide of the Jews of Israel. There has been a factorial increase in anti-Semitic violence and threats and vandalism since October 7. There has been a complaint that NHS staff abused and mistreated a young Jewish patient (and I know there are doctors’ social media forums where anti-Semitic abuse and propaganda is rife). Jewish citizens fear for their safety and are afraid to walk the streets even during the day. We have Islamist and leftist scum working in concert to pour out dismissive minimalisation of the Hamas atrocities, and promote anti-Israel conspiracy theories and pro-Islamist apologetics to point the finger of blame for more than 1,200 murders and hundreds of kidnap victims at Israel and the Jews themselves.
To cap it all, there is mostly silence, interspersed very occasionally with a softly spoken, monotone, half-hearted condemnation from senior politicians – this is a national crisis of identity and morality for this country and they are doing NOTHING! I have a bag of Jelly Babies in a cupboard that have more backbone than the combined, useless mass of congealed blubber that is called Parliament.
This has been going on since the day after Hamas committed bestial acts of carnage, rape and murder, and it is an evil in our midst. Yet it continues unabated and unchallenged by those whose very job it is to ensure this country follows a moral code, and to enforce its laws to protect innocent and vulnerable groups of our own citizens. Our politicians and police are enabling this descent into group immorality by their avoidance of confrontation of it. Instead of denouncing this Nazi-style behaviour, our politicians are utilising a globalist has-been ex-PM to find ways to engineer a defeat for Israel through political pressure, while the police find as many different translations for the genocidal chants as they can, just to avoid doing the right thing.
My God! What has happened that we have to watch these things happening in our own country, day after day, for months on end, things that should deeply concern and upset us, and yes, shame us, yet there appears to be no ending of it?
I see the UK morphing into some kind of 1930s Nazi Germany with virulent anti-Semitism in full display, Jews being openly hounded and abused and attacked, the government turning a blind eye to reality and police finding ways to justify it, while the vast majority of the population just look on, shrug their shoulders, and go back to their brain-numbing soap operas and gossip pages.
If the UK descends into a final nihilistic act of self-destruction by voting in a Labour government, dragging down with it the remaining citizens who are not yet paid-up members of the country’s cabal of self-loathing humanists and woke dogmatists, all will be lost – and that final journey to state-ordained, sanctioned and enforced immorality will take place over a few short years.
I know that if I went to Israel tomorrow, I could not look a Jewish Israeli in the eye without feeling shame for what is happening in my country. How much longer will it be before I will need to go to Israel to look a Jew in the eye because there is none left in the UK?
