God help me – sometimes the Devil just waves that low-hanging fruit and I can’t stop myself. I grab.
This was one of those times.
I know I shouldn’t sully my hard-won reputation with a fluffery piece of this magnitude, but dang it. Somebody had to (I’m not really a martyr – I only play one here at HotAir.).
There I was this morning – minding my own business, looking for weird angles on world events – when into my timeline came self-proclaimed “lizard person,” Taylor Lorenz.
Yes. She, the “American journalist” who is the meister of stalking and unmasking people…

…whose views offend her…
Remember when Taylor Lorenz tried so hard to stop Libs of TikTok, but that just boosted exposure to Libs of TikTok & now @libsoftiktok is closing in on 3 million followers? pic.twitter.com/CgZyUjilJO

…even as she is offended by the reaction of those offended by her. Reaping what she viciously sows is “horrifying” to Taylor Lorenz. Downright PTSD inducing.
Then there’s the unending pandemic paranoia – her constantly masked and mask-mandate haranguing of citizens and government from the safety of her sanitized abode, wrapped in layers of her own unique conspiracy theories.
She keeps her apartment at 87° – global warming be damned – and has multiple twitches to go along with her incredibly winning personality.
…Lorenz has previously admitted to suffering from trichotillomania (hair pulling disorder) and dermatillomania (skin picking disorder), which sounds like precisely the sort of maladies that would afflict a reptile inhabiting a human body. Additionally, reptiles tend to age at a faster rate than humans, which could explain why Lorenz has such a hard time discussing her true age.
She shines as a work colleague.

She’d be a cat lady, if only the cats would have her.
They won’t.
Again, that only burnishes La Lorenz’s victimhood status.
I hesitate to use the word “scratch” around the Lizard Lady, but that’s barely what I’ve done to the surface of the wealth of malignant whacko weirdness that is Taylor Lorenz.
Today she’s added another page to that book, this one in her own words. And it was so lacking in self-awareness, and so germane to something I wrote about the other day, that I had to listen…and take notes.
What a bizarre experience. I came away with, “What in the actual *%#* was that?”
The subject she waxes poetic on is the implosion of media “as she knows it” – mind you, that’s an important point. If you can get past the annoying visuals of her holding a microphone she should be wearing, the God awful vocal fry, and her coy, cutesy mannerisms, do dive in.
I have a few points I address afterwards.
“The entire journalism industry is basically in a freefall…”
And she’s off to the races.
Causation causation causation…what could tie all these events together, millennials? pic.twitter.com/X1xRkXvIVn

The Los Angeles Times “basically wiped out their entire D.C. bureau in an election year…” Accompanied by a meaningful wink.
“…But what’s really dark is that this is just the latest in months and months and months of lay-offs in the media industry…”
Believe me, there’s no pause anywhere for a bit of self-reflection about that.
This line is the kicker.
“…Pretty much the entire digital media eco-system that myself and a lot of other millennial journalists came up in has been completely hollowed out. And it’s not just digital media sites. Local news has been obliterated, the newspaper industry is cratering, radio is essentially dead aside from NPR which has been gutted….”
Think, think, think, Taylor Bear of Little Brain – what do these things all have in common? C’mon, you can do i…maybe you can’t.
All these things either have millennials posing as journalists when they’re really writing slanted opinion pieces about everything from sports to ladies bathrooms. And there are a good number of frauds among them, like yourself?
I sat there thinking, “Look chica. Bad enough you still dress, talk, and act like a mall rat, but now you’re a millennial, too?”
This tweet is from two years ago. I can do that math, and she’s a millennial like Michael Mann is a Nobel Prize winner.
Supposedly she lies about her age…a lot. Why, I can’t imagine. She seems like such a nice girl.
As for radio being dead except poor NPR running off of our tax dollars, our talk-radio seems to be doing just fine, thank you.
Then there is this line, which runs hand-in-hand with the piece I did on the LA Times newsroom walking out to save the company.
“…Meanwhile, hundreds of workers at Condé Nast, the parent company of pretty much every major magazine from GQ to Vogue to The New Yorker to Vanity Fair are on strike because they’re also facing pending lay-offs…”
This is how divorced from reality that entire industry is. I’d also like to point out the Condé Nast publications she rattles off that are affected by these lay-offs. I would venture a bet there’s probably not many of you who subscribe to one, if any, of them any more. I used to be a hardcore Vogue addict – I’ll confess. But it got to the point where every single article became a platform for bashing Republicans, even if it was about, like, ladies underwear.
Articles with no particular relation to politics would be going along swimmingly, say, talking about underwires and silks and then all of a sudden they toss in a “Gone are the days of the B.F. Goodrich corsets that restrained protruding Republican belly pooches with fierce firmness for those Thursday night bowling and beer outings.” And I’m like WTF did THAT come from?
The digs, snarks, and slights were sprinkled liberally throughout. I can get dissed for free – I don’t have to pay money for it. And so I haven’t for almost 20 years. Their loss, but they shouldn’t be surprised when a publication that started out as relatively neutral/slight left tilt then turns virulently and rabidly partisan eventually goes under (See: LA Times blaming white people for air pollution).
Maybe more liberals and progressives should put their money where their mouths are – radio, whiny advocate newspapers, and glossy magazines – if they are going to bemoan the loss of these things, huh? But it seems as if even progs and liberals get tired of all the attention whores in their own media constantly trying to out-do each other’s outrageous outrage, and virtue signaling purity. Where is MSNBC in the ratings if there is no Trump to wallop on?
I rest my case. Constant angst is tiresome, even for those who live for it.
Normally I’m always giving these self-absorbed children “spend some time in the mirror” advice, but in Lorenz’s case, she spends too much time there telling herself how terrific she is and the badly mis-guided rest of the world how it should behave.
Nothing is going to change the nasty, narcissistic basket case that is Taylor Lorenz, but she does come in awful handy as a illustrative tool for what ails the progressive cult of obsessive personality in general.
I am still baffled by one thing, though. In all the tens of thousands of lay-offs, how is that vile, questionable human being and pretty lousy journalist Taylor Lorenz – of all people – is still employed?
‘Tis a puzzlement.
