The Sex and the City spin-off, And Just Like That, has been renewed for another season. One character will not be returning and she blames a Hollywood blacklist for her termination.
Sara Ramirez posted on Instagram that her character has been removed from the show. The actress played a non-binary character, Che Diaz, and was a controversial addition to the cast. Her character helped cause the break-up of Miranda’s marriage to Steve. Miranda was in a lesbian relationship with Che. Che is an entertainer who hosted a podcast and did stand-up comedy. Her character was given an opportunity for a Netflix special but she bombed. Whatever. She was a central character in the last season on the show, which streams on Max (formerly HBO Max.) The spin-off is crap, by the way. I would say I’m surprised it’s been renewed for another season, but it’s Max.
It is not at all surprising to me that she is a pro-Palestine supporter. It is a little bit surprising that she is attacking her industry and blaming a Hollywood blacklist for her termination.
And Just Like That star Sara Ramirez has hinted they’ve been axed from the Sex and the City spin-off over their pro-Palestine stance – then insulted their ‘performative’ character.
‘Our industry is so duplicitous,’ the former Grey’s Anatomy star wrote, the night after the Emmy Awards.
‘While they give awards away, casting directors and agents are making blacklists of actors and workers who post anything in support of Palestinians in Gaza to ensure they will not work again.
‘While they lift up some of their own clients who have spoken up against this genocide, they are firing and letting others who have smaller platforms go.
‘While they award ‘lgbtq orgs’, they are silent on those orgs ties to weapons manufacturers who are currently supporting the Israel military as it commits genocide on Palestinian lives that include LGBTQIA2S+ lives.’
She is one of the useful idiots for Hamas who protested in a Queers for Palestine rally in Brooklyn. How long does she think Hamas would let her live? The ignorance of these protesters is breathtaking.
Her comment about the “performative” nature of her character seems to come from a script for And Just Like That
In the second season, Che Diaz is given a pilot for a Netflix comedy show, which flopped.
But Diaz struggles with how the Netflix producers want them to appear, and says they are reduced to ‘just some phoney, sanitized, performative, cheesy, dad joke bulls**t version of what the non-binary experience is.’.
Hmm.
Shouldn’t Hollywood people know by now that public denouncements of Israel or glowing support of Palestine (Hamas) will affect their careers? There are lots of stories about celebrities participating in demonstrations or posting on social media that has put a halt to their career. Many of the rich and famous who want to remain rich and famous have offered up apologies. Surely Sara has seen some of this play out on social media.
She has many posts on her Instagram account about the Israel-Hamas war.
It is clear where she stands. This is a time for moral clarity and she has chosen the wrong side. She parrots the talking point of genocide at the hands of Israel. Gaza is not occupied. Israel left in 2005. There was a ceasefire in place on October 7, 2023 when Hamas crossed the border and massacred Israelis, Americans, and others in an horrific attack. There must be no ceasefire until Hamas is eliminated. It’s as simple as that. Bring the hostages home and end Hamas.
