The Tennessee Conservative Staff –
The Senate State and Local Government Committee will consider a bill that would help disabled veterans in Tennessee by providing property tax relief.
Senate Bill 1725 (SB1725), sponsored by Senator Rusty Crowe (R-Johnson City-District 3), “expands eligibility for property tax relief to a veteran who acquired a service-connected disability that is determined by the United States department of veterans affairs to be permanent and total due to individual unemployability.”
According to data from the Housing Assistance Council, 423,042 veterans currently reside in Tennessee with more than 267,000 of them owning homes. More than 28% of those who have served in the military have some sort of disability related to their service.
If passed, the legislation would provide property tax relief to those who are unable to be employed due to a disability caused by that service.
The committee will hear the bill on Tuesday, March 5.
To voice your support or opposition to the bill, contact the members of the committee prior to that meeting date.
