The Tennessee Conservative [By Rebecca Scott] –
According to the US Department of Homeland Security, upwards of 600 immigrants from the Southwest Border have cited Middle Tennessee as their intended destination when questioned during processing.
A notice was received by the City of Franklin in the fall of 2023 informing the city that it, along with Nashville, Davidson County, and Murfreesboro were all chosen destinations for the illegal immigrants.
The total of 573 non-citizens who were looking to Middle Tennessee were processed in a time period of only one week, ending September 16,2023. With that many illegal immigrants choosing a small area of Tennessee in one week, it is logical to beg the question how many continue to look to Tennessee as a destination.
According to the paperwork sent to the City of Franklin from the Department of Homeland Security and titled, Intended Destination of Noncitizens Processed at the Southwest Border, which was shared by WSMV, “DHS does not have a role in transporting released noncitizens to their intended destination and does not have a role in validating travel plans. As a result, this information may not accurately reflect individuals who will travel to that destination, remain at that destination, or when they may arrive. With these caveats, DHS is providing these data to potential receiving cities in response to requests for planning purposes only.”
There seems to be no way of tracking whether these noncitizens ever arrived in Tennessee or where they may be now.
The immigrants were said to be from Guatemala, Venezuela, Honduras, and Mexico. There were no specifics regarding gender or age of any of the illegal aliens.
The Tennessee legislature is currently reviewing bills related to illegal immigration in the state.
With notices like this coming from DHS, it is obvious that those crossing the Southern Border are eyeing Tennessee as a destination.
