Maddow’s Meltdown When Trump Won the Iowa Caucuses Exposed Media’s Path Forward – HotAir

Something happened when Trump won the Iowa caucuses Monday night and the time came for him to deliver a victory speech. MSNBC and other media outlets decided to not air the speech.

It is not breaking news that MSNBC is anti-Trump. It is unusual for a progressive activist who plays a political show host on MSNBC to level with the audience about its political bias. Maddow explained that Trump won in Iowa and he was beginning to speak. She went on to say MSNBC and other news outlets have stopped airing his speeches live because they don’t air “untrue things.”

RACHEL MADDOW, MSNBC: I just have to get to business just for a second. At this point in the evening the projected winner of the Iowa caucuses has just started giving his victory speech. We will keep an eye on that as it happens, we will let you know if there is any news made in that speech, anything noteworthy, something substantive and important.

The reason why I am saying this is, of course, there is a reason that we and other news organizations have generally stopped giving an unfiltered, live platform to remarks by former President Trump. It’s not out of spite, it is not a decision that we relish, it is a decision that we regularly revisit and, honestly, earnestly, it is not an easy decision. But there is a cost to us, as a news organization, of knowingly broadcasting untrue things. And that is a fundamental truth of our business and who we are. So his remarks, tonight, will not air here live. We will monitor them and let you know about any news that he makes.

This is ridiculous, of course, because they air Joe Biden all the time. Biden is a serial liar. But, he’s one of them so it’s not a big deal. What about partisan hacks like Rep. Adam Schiff who told lie after lie on cable news networks about his alleged information on the hoax of Russia, Russia, Russia against Trump. What about the sham impeachment against Trump that MSNBC and other networks carried with bated breath?

I’ll note that Fox airs Biden’s speeches as they do others. It is how it should be. MSNBC and others want to tell viewers what Trump said, not allow viewers to hear a speech for themselves.

The problem with this kind of political censorship is that other media outlets follow MSNBC’s lead. Case in point, CNN cut away from the speech and Jake Tapper made an editorial comment.

If they are worried about a “the lie”, how about the basis of Trump’s first impeachment trial? They rode that story from start to finish.

My, my. Such sensitive people. David Axelrod, Obama’s strategist, isn’t so nervous about hearing Trump speak. As a matter of fact, he said Trump sounded “disciplined and strategic.”

Axelrod is a realist. He knows that Biden has a good chance of losing his re-election campaign. He has been sounding the alarm to Team Biden for a while now.

True professionals in journalism are few and far between. There is little objectivity in today’s journalism. Most reporters and cable news political journos have become political activists, not honest reporters. Liberals and progressives always assume the rest of the country agrees with them. Other cable outlets despise Fox News Channel but Fox presents all sides of arguments with mixed panelists of conservatives and liberals. It is a variety of opinions that isn’t heard on other channels. It is why Fox consistently wins the highest ratings from viewers. It certainly isn’t like only conservatives watch Fox.

Rachel and her merry band of misfits on the panel are all about blaming MAGA Republicans for Trump’s extremist rhetoric, in their minds, and it’s the Republicans who are extremists, you know. In our divided world, we think it is the Democrats who are the extremists. Oh well. Her panel of MSNBC hosts is almost a parody of stereotypical leftists.

Poor Rachel is going to have a long political season going forward. Trump is ahead in primaries across the board. The Republican primary is a race between Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley for second place. Maybe one of them will pull out a miracle during the primary process, but it looks like Trump’s nomination to lose. If that is true and Trump is the nominee, Rachel may have to seek help. And, show some professionalism.
