THIS presidential election year promises to be a momentous one. With the possible exception of 2001, which opened the eyes of America and the world to the existential threat posed by politicised Islam,2024 may well be the most decisive year for the United States since World War II.
Hyperbole? Maybe. But I argue that 2024 could determine the future of the cultural revolution which has been tearing this country apart for decades, reaching unprecedented intensity following the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis on Memorial Day 2020. Simply put, if Joe Biden is re-elected in November, that revolution will continue unabated and God only knows what will happen to this once-great nation. If Trump wins instead, there is at least a glimmer of hope for the nation I love.
Yet as I write, rich Americans, who adorn their Facebook pages with Ukrainian flags and BLM memes and little announcements saying how proud they are to wear masks and stay at home to save lives; who control just about every cultural, governmental, judicial and educational institution; even the military and other agencies of coercion such as the FBI, CIA and Department of Homeland Security, are doing all in their power to destroy Trump and prevent his return to the executive office.
There is little the technocratic elites will not do to deny Trump the presidency. No lie they will not tell, no violation of the Constitution they will not contemplate, no law they will not break, no corporation they will not suborn, and no marginalised and powerless individual American citizen they will not vilify and destroy, using the full power of law enforcement and the apparatus of the surveillance state, if it serves what they claim to be the noblest cause of our age: destroy Trump and save democracy.
The attempt to stop him becoming the first man since Grover Cleveland in 1892 to have left the White House after serving one term, only to return for a second term four years later, has led to one of the greatest injustices in recent American history. I refer, of course, to what the managerial class that now runs the United States has done to those hapless men and women who dared enter the Capitol in Washington DC on January 6, 2021, many of them unaware they were breaking the law.
While some of them undeniably assaulted police officers and tore down barriers, most did not. Some found an open door and simply walked through it, conducting themselves as if they were on an official tour, taking selfies and being careful to keep within the areas designated for tourists. A tiny minority were armed with blunt instruments and noxious sprays, but none was found to be carrying a firearm. The only person shot in the Capitol that day, an unarmed 35-year-old Air Force veteran named Ashli Babbitt, was gunned down by police and died of her injuries.
My purpose here is not to dissect the labyrinthine complexities of an event that the Biden regime and its friends in the media are using to wage war on its opponents. All I aim to do is to draw attention to the injustice and cruelty to which those arrested, and those who are continuing to be arrested and charged with crimes allegedly committed on January 6, have been subjected.
Horror stories about their experiences in the Washington DC jail where most of them are being held include:
Begging for help/water/medical aid/mercy through tiny windows in metal doors.
Receiving no visits from family, friends, lawyers, or clergy.
Denied Mass or other Sunday worship services.
Laundry returned to them with brown stains, pubic hair and/or reeking of urine.
Broken toilets which either won’t flush or repeatedly explode in cells.
Being stuck in cells for nine days without a shower or bath.
Subjected to solitary confinement, violating the so-called ‘Nelson Mandela Rules’, for 25½ hours or more at a time.
Guards denying them hot water and keeping them from attending court.
Given disgusting food which is causing severe health problems.
Perhaps worst of all, guards beating, insulting and even sexually assaulting prisoners.
Where, you may ask, are the American Civil Liberties Union or Amnesty International in all of this? Nowhere to be seen. When it comes to the civil rights of those who rioted or the majority who did not riot at the Capitol on January 6, progressive bleeding-heart holier-than-thou liberal America is simply not interested. Indeed, in a speech this year on the third anniversary of what Biden and the left call the ‘January 6 Insurrection’, the president boasted of the hundreds who have been or are in the process of being convicted for what they supposedly did in 2021. He positively gloated that those so far convicted were sentenced to a collective 840 years in prison, a statement greeted with claps and cheers by the partisan crowd.
Matthew Graves, United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, has promised to arrest one ‘January 6 Insurrectionist’ a day for the foreseeable future, meaning that the number of those incarcerated, around 1,200, will rise to more than 2,000 by the end of the year. Given that they will be tried in Washington DC, a city that voted 92 per cent for Biden, their chances of acquittal are precisely nil. On any day you can go to the federal courthouse in Washington and pick randomly a judge or courtroom and you will be able to find a case involving a January 6 defendant.
