Oh, what a difference a few days and a couple of terrible polling cycles can make during an election year. After three years of flooding the country with illegal migrants and telling lies about the southern border being “safe” and “secure,” now the White House is saying that sanctuary cities need to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). One White House spokesperson went so far as to give a quote to Fox News saying that when local jurisdictions have information about “an individual who could pose a threat to public safety,” they want them to share that information with ICE and turn over illegal migrants for deportation. Did Trump take back the White House already and I simply slept through the election?
The White House is calling for “sanctuary” cities and jurisdictions across the U.S. to cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in turning over criminal illegal immigrants for deportation, just as there is renewed scrutiny over such policies in the wake of several high-profile crimes committed by illegal immigrants who had previously been released by local law enforcement despite pleas from ICE.
“We welcome local law enforcement’s support and cooperation in apprehending and removing individuals who pose a risk to national security or public safety,” a White House spokesperson told Fox News Digital on Wednesday in response to a question about its stance on sanctuary cities. “When a local jurisdiction has information about an individual who could pose a threat to public safety, we want them to share that information with ICE.”
It’s no mystery why this sudden change of heart is taking place. For one thing, Joe BIden’s handlers are capable of reading the polls and they’re starting to panic. Immigration is now the number one concern among voters and it’s not because people approve of how Biden is handling his job. Those concerns have now been massively amplified by a number of high-profile murders and assaults committed by illegal aliens.
We’ve already explored the tragic murder of Laken Riley by an illegal alien who “disfigured her skull.” Sadly, she was far from the only victim. We more recently learned of a 2-year-old child in Maryland who was murdered by an illegal alien. That’s the one that probably forced the White House into suddenly supporting ICE. The suspect in that case already had detainers lodged against him but they had not been honored by local authorities. Far too many other examples are floating around out there in the news.
People are outraged and rightly so. A Guatemalan illegal immigrant was arrested in Boston this week for the sexual assault of a child. He too had detainers but had been released anyway. The word is getting around and Democratic politicians who have previously supported Biden’s open borders policy are getting an earful.
Biden went to the border today in a meaningless gesture intended to shore up his disastrous poll numbers. But he’s not the only one who has been moved to take action, particularly when it comes to the operation of ICE. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has now issued a call to the City Council in the Big Apple asking that they rescind New York’s sanctuary city status and begin cooperating with ICE. Last year, Alejandro Mayorkas was warning about ICE agents engaging in what he described as “indiscriminate enforcement” of immigration laws. He hasn’t commented yet this week, but I suspect he’ll be changing his tune as well.
Unfortunately for the Biden administration, even if he did somehow see the light and shut down the border, it’s too late. He’s already allowed nearly ten million illegal aliens into the country and there are many, many criminals among them. These stories are going to continue showing up as long as that’s the case. Even if you doubled the size of ICE and authorized unlimited overtime pay, it would take many years to find them all, round them up, and deport them. Nothing will be noticeably different in November.
